We offer a variety of yoga classes to suit all levels and desires. We have two studios, one of which is heated – to provide Hot Yoga classes. In our temperate studio we offer a variety of yoga classes of many styles, including Ashtanga Yoga.

Ashtanga Yoga is an ancient yoga practice, passed down directly to Pattabhi Jois who, from 1948, taught Ashtanga yoga from his yoga shala, the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute. Since Pattabhi’s recent death the Institute has been run by his son.

To perform asana correctly in Ashtanga Yoga, one must incorporate the use of vinyasa and tristhana. Vinyasa is movement synchronized with breath (“Ashtanga Yoga”). The purpose of a vinyasa is to purify the body by increasing circulation and body heat, resulting in an increase in sweating.

“The method for purifying and strengthening the body is called asana” (Jois 2002 22).

In Ashtanga Yoga, asana is grouped into six series. The Primary Series, the Intermediate Series, and the Advanced Series – A, B, C, and D.

Each level must be developed before proceeding to the next. The sequential order of asanas should be meticulously followed, since each posture is a preparation for the next.

Yotopia has a hot studio for Hot Yoga classes. Yotopia’s Hot Yoga classes are practiced in a room heated to 35 deg C.

The Hot Yoga we offer is different to Bikram Yoga. The temperature is lower. And our Hot Yoga classes include more movement (less static postures), and the sequence changes in each Hot Yoga Class. Its more like a traditional yoga class, in the heat.

Please be careful to fully hydrate before, during and after our Hot Yoga classes.
