The flexible friend

Tony Diamond, 44, is the first to incorporate a technique called myofascial release, first developed by osteopaths, into traditional Pilates and yoga moves. In case you’ve never heard of it, the myofascial is the connective tissue from muscle to muscle or muscle to bone; by stimulating its release you can relieve pain caused by sporting or other injuries. Tony has been a Pilates and yoga teacher in India, Rome and London for the past 15 years. He is highly sought-after both for his ability to sculpt the body, and to promote recovery from major injuries and minor niggles.

COME THE REVOLUTION Myofascial release hasn’t been used alongside yoga and Pilates before. Tony believes that you don’t need to put stress on the body to improve physique: ‘I improve the body through nurture, rather than pounding it,’ he explains. He has also designed ‘hot Pilates’, which helps clients to deepen movements in temperatures of 22-24C.

TOP TIPS Stretching is the most important thing because losing movement in the body makes you look old. Wake up early and exercise earlier in the day. Diet: it doesn’t matter how much exercise you do, if your food’s not clean, then you’re not going to achieve your goals.

SECRET STRATEGY Sprinting followed by yoga poses in Hyde Park: ‘The sequence of sprint-yoga-sprint works the myofascial tissue.’
